Recognition
for Timor Aid
As
events following the popular consultation reached crisis point
leading to international intervention Timor Aid was there from
the beginning. Now as the rebuilding and restructuring of life
in East Timor start to take shape praise for the work by Timor
Aid in the emergency phase are flowing in. |

“…
a cry went out to the world for humanitarian
assistance. Timor Aid was one of those organisations that
immediately answered with vigour and commitment.
… This attitude of ‘when nobody else can, Timor Aid can’
has won the organisation a position of reverence among East Timorese
and the international community. … Timor Aid continues to serve East
Timorese in some of the logistically most difficult districts to
service … Not only does Timor Aid enlist and promote the full
participation of East Timorese and provide training and objectivity to
its staff, it also encourages a better understanding among
international organisations of East Timorese culture and language.
…. The problems that East Timor faces in the coming years are
daunting but not insurmountable as long as Timor Aid and other
organisations with similar commitment remain resourced and active in
building this new nation. …” Gregory Gromo Alex, Chair of
Operations, Humanitarian Assistance and Emergency Rehabilitation,
UNTAET. 10/3/00
“….
Timor Aid has set an example in its timely
and effective use and management of aid funds, harnessing the skills
of the people of this country as far as possible…” Bob Churcher
DFID. 25/5/00.
“I

up of a Vocational Training Centre
-
Running
of health clinics
-

material distribution
-
Food
distribution
-
Clothing
manufacture
as
well as their support for Permaculture experts and new projects in
fisheries…” Rumiana Decheva Public Services Officer, Governance
and Public Administration, UNTAET. 25/1/00
“….
In addition to their main activities, Timor
Aid’s people on the ground have the rare ability to say ‘Yes –
no problem’, … Without the Timor Aids presence Ainaro District, I
would not have been able to manage.
…” Tor Steabeck, District Administrator, Ainaro.
“Certificate
of Appreciation” to Timor Aid, “In recognition of your
valuable contribution towards the building of a sick house in Dili,
East Timor. You can be very proud that your generosity will save lives
in the future.” Awarded by the Outreach to East Timor Committee.
While
Timor Aid continues to focus on trying to improve the infrastructure
and living conditions for the East Timorese it is good to know our
