Timor Aid was delighted to welcome Ms Itie van Hout, Senior Textile Curator at the Tropenmuseum, Amsterdam to Timor Leste.
Ms van Hout discussed her work over the past five years in West Kalimantan, where the Tropenmuseum has been working to support the local administration to establish a museum of social harmony - the Museum Kapuas Raya. This work contains ideas and possibilities for Timor-Leste.
The Tropenmuseum forms part of the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) which aims to contribute to poverty alleviation, knowledge sharing and cultural preservation through devleopment projects, scientific research and training and information services.
Ms Van Hout met with the Secretary of State for Culture, toured the Timor-Leste National Collection in Villa Verde, gave a lecture on the work of the Tropenmuseum n South East Asia and travelled to Suai to meet local weavers.
Timor Aid will continue working with Ms Van Hout and the Tropenmuseum to explore opportunities for supporting cultural preservation work in Timor-Leste.
