Tetun Language Promotion
Tetun, the official language of Timor Leste alongside Portuguese, has only a short history as a written language and is still developing.
The amount of reading material available in Tetun today is low, a big barrier to universal literacy.
Timor Aid works to promote the widespread use of the Tetun language across Timorese society
Istoria Timor
Now in its third year, Istoria Timor is an annual short story writing competition, run in conjunction with the Alola Foundation, to encourage more Timorese stories for more Timorese readers.
Publishing books
Timor Aid has published over 40 books in the Tetun language from teaching manuals to historical accounts and children’s books.
Our latest book, Lurai Oan Ki’ik, is the French children’s classic The Little Prince in the Tetun language.
