Timor Aid Support for People Living with HIVAIDS
Working closely with local medical facilities, Timor Aid provides support for around 50 HIV positive people from the districts of Dili, Baucau, Aileu, Ermera and Bobonara including organising regular visits to a medical clinic and coordinating a monthly discussion session for individuals to share experiences and provide mutual support. Timor Aid also works with each participant to provide educational opportunities including language classes and computer training to increase confidence and encourage members to raise awareness of HIV/AIDs prevention and challenge social stigmas.
Timor Aid supports the development of a self-help group of PLHIV that will be best able to represent its needs, and advocate for its rights.
In early 2011, Timor Aid, with the support of the World Food Program is training health staff and PLHIV in the use of the nutrition supplement BP-5 made available from World Food Program for high-risk groups in Timor Leste.
